The Annual General Meeting of Brainwave The Irish Epilepsy Association (trading as Epilepsy Ireland) took place on 30th September 2021. For the second year in a row, the meeting was held via Zoom.
Chairperson Cathy Grieve presented an update on Epilepsy Ireland’s work in 2020 across support & information services, training, epilepsy awareness, advocacy and research. Cathy also highlighted the challenges caused by the global pandemic and thanked all our donors who supported the charity in what was a very difficult year for most.
Treasurer Paul Kehoe presented the Treasurer’s report detailing the key points from our 2020 audited financial statements. He also explained how EI raises and uses funds and highlighted the 50% drop in fundraising income that was experienced in 2020.
Other business conducted at the AGM included the reappointment of our auditors, Deloitte and the election and re-election of Directors (board members). Three board members stepped down from the board at the AGM – Tony Caravousanos, Tessa Dagge and Joyce Senior. The Chair paid tribute to all three and especially Mrs Dagge, who has been involved with the charity for almost 50 years, including several years as Chairperson.
Prof Mary King, Helen Behan, Shane O’Brien and Anne Kilroy were all elected to a first four-year term on the Board, while Cathy Grieve, Mark Dowdall, Vincent Savino, Clare O’Dea and Derry Gray were all appointed for a second four year term.
There was no special business conducted at the AGM. In ‘Any Other Business’, members raised queries on EI’s ongoing fundraising activities and the impact of the changed remote working environment.
Thank you to all who attended this year’s AGM. We very much hope to host the meeting in person in 2022.
