In their latest meeting, members of Wexford County Council passed a motion supporting the issue of Free Travel for People with Epilepsy and for Reasonable Accommodations for students with epilepsy who may have a seizure during state examinations.
The passing of the motion follows a similar decision from Louth County Council earlier this year. The motion in Wexford was submitted by Cllr. George Lawlor.
Both issues have long been key advocacy matters for Epilepsy Ireland & our members and we are delighted to see the Wexford local authority outline their support for these issues. The council will now write to the Government seeking action on both the matters listed above.
We hope that the decisions of both Louth & Wexford County Council will see further local executives follow suit across the country and lead to progress on two longstanding issues that have faced people with epilepsy.
Both motions stem from a recent submission Epilepsy Ireland made to the Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters focussing on these key advocacy issues. Our submission is available to read or download on our website.
We look forward to pursuing both these issues further with Government bodies in the year ahead.
