Epilepsy Ireland were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Scotland Rugby Union Captain, Tom Smith, following a battle with cancer.
Throughout his fantastic playing career, Tom lived with epilepsy, and used his profile to speak regularly about the condition to raise awareness amongst international audiences.
Tom will always have a close association with Epilepsy Ireland. Back in 2006, alongside then Ireland international, Gordon D'Arcy, Tom fronted a campaign for us (or Brainwave as we were then known) seeking that well known personalities come forward to discuss their epilepsy to create greater awareness.
This led to our now patron, Rick O’Shea coming forward. The rest as they say, is history.
We will be forever grateful for the support that Tom gave us back in 2006 and we would like to extend our sincere condolences to all his family and friends.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
