Teen Time 21.11.24

21 Nov 2024

We know how the teenage years can be one of the most stressful periods for a person living with epilepsy - and we know it’s a time when many teenagers do not want to think or speak about epilepsy.

However, from our years of serving the epilepsy community, we’ve heard from now-adults about how they never knew anyone with epilepsy growing up and many feel that they would've benefited in later years from being more comfortable about discussing their epilepsy from an earlier age with those around them. This is why we established 'Teen Time'.

This online group brings young people with epilepsy from across Ireland together in a safe environment where they can either discuss their own personal journey with epilepsy with others who know what they’re going through - or to just have a general catch-up with their peers.

If you're a teenager with epilepsy and would be interested in joining for our Teen Time group throughout the year, you can see how to register below.

We look forward to welcoming you to Teen Time and introducing you to the many other teens who are living with epilepsy across the country.

Register for Teen Time!

Please contact our acting Youth Resource Officer, Agnieszka by emailing apolak@epilepsy.ie if you have any general questions about the group. Note that we will ask for parental/guardian consent to join Teen Time. Depending on numbers attending, separate breakout rooms will be set up for younger/older teens. A wait list will apply if we are oversubscribed.

A note for parents/guardians.

If you are a parent or guardian of a teenager with epilepsy, and think your teen would benefit from this group, we’d encourage you to share the link with them and get them to express their interest with Agnieszka via the registration form directly. From events we’ve held previously for teens, it is not a good start when the parent registers their teen without their knowledge. In addition, we will be extremely strict with parents or guardians sitting in on or attending these meetings. Having parents/guardians present will not enhance the environment we are trying to build. We will also be insisting cameras are on for the safety of everyone participating. Should you have any questions about this event, please contact Agnieszka.

Please note..

If you need any information or support regarding epilepsy, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your local Community Resource Officer. You can find their details by visiting the 'Our Local Services' section of our website.
