If you are a teenager living with epilepsy, we’d like to invite you to an online event especially for you!

‘Teen Time’ is an online event which has been set up by Epilepsy Ireland aimed at bringing teenagers living with epilepsy together.

We’ve been around for a while here at Epilepsy Ireland (since 1966) and over that time in supporting people with epilepsy and their families, we know how the teenage years can be one of the most stressful periods for a person living with the condition. We also know that it’s a time when epilepsy is literally the last thing you want to be thinking or speaking about – but it’s important that you do as believe us, we know it will benefit you in later life.

That’s why we’ve set up this event for you. From our service, we’ve heard from now-adults how they never knew anyone with epilepsy growing up and how something like this event, in retrospect, would’ve been of benefit to them.

So, here’s your chance to join us for this monthly event and get to know others living with epilepsy in a safe environment where you can either discuss your own personal journey with epilepsy with others who know what you’re going through - or to just have a general catch-up with your peers and make connections across Ireland.

We plan on holding this event during term-time and it’s for teens aged 13-17 years. During the year, we also plan on having guest inputs on topics such as memory and study skills; anxiety and mental health; and anything else that might be of interest to a teenage audience (as noted we’re not teenager anymore here at Epilepsy Ireland so once we get up and running, we’ll be looking to hear from you about prospective inputs!)

If you’re interested in joining us for ‘Teen Time’, get in touch by emailing either of our Community Resource Officers Agnieszka (apolak@epilepsy.ie) or Joanne (jlynch@epilepsy.ie).

Hope to see you at ‘Teen Time’ and some further info on this event and how to register is included below:

  • WHEN: 13th December, 7:00pm – 8:00pm
  • WHERE: Your home, via Zoom!
  • WHO: This event is for teens with epilepsy aged 13 – 17.
  • REGISTRATION: Note that permission from your parents/guardians will be required to attend this event. To begin the registration process, email either of our Community Resource Officers Agnieszka (apolak@epilepsy.ie) or Joanne (jlynch@epilepsy.ie) and they will send you on consent forms/permissions, zoom link etc.

A note for parents/guardians.

If you are a parent or guardian of a teenager with epilepsy, and think your teen would benefit from this event, we’d encourage you to share the link with them and get them to express their interest with Agnieszka or Joanne directly. From events we’ve held previously for teens, it is not a good start when the parent registers their teen without their knowledge. In addition, we will be extremely strict with parents or guardians sitting in on or attending these meetings. Having parents/guardians present will not enhance the environment we are trying to build. We will also be insisting cameras are on for the safety of everyone participating. Should you have any questions about this event, please call Agnieszka on 0858063959 or Joanne on 0858766584. If you require any support for yourself as the parent of a teenager with epilepsy, please contact your local Community Resource Officer. You can find their details in the ‘Our Local Service’ section of our website.
