This week is Brain Awareness Week and it is a vital week to raise awareness of neurological conditions, to support the 800,000 people who live with them in Ireland and to advocate for changes to help improve the lives of people living with neurological conditions across the country.
With 45,000 people living with epilepsy in Ireland, we are delighted to be supporting the Neurological Alliance of Ireland’s latest Patients Deserve Better campaign.
Epilepsy Ireland has previously supported the campaign for recruitment of Neurological Nurse Specialists, and this latest iteration of the Patients Deserve Better campaign aims to improve access to Consultant Neurologists.
We know this is an issue facing many people with epilepsy and their families – which is why it was included in our ongoing Advocacy Priorities survey – and we are delighted to be adding our voice alongside other NAI members to seek action on this and to call for improved access to Consultant Neurologists in Ireland – particularly in poorly served regional areas.
To learn more about the new Patients Deserve Better campaign and to add your voice to the call for improved access to Consultant Neurologists, visit the ‘Patients Deserve Better’ website.
Please note that our Advocacy Priorities survey remains open so please do provide us with your thoughts on the issues which are important to you. Visit the ‘SurveyMonkey’ website to complete our survey.
If you need any information or support on your or a loved one’s journey with epilepsy, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your local Community Resource Officer. You can find their details by visiting the 'Our Local Services' section of our website.
