With our 24-Hour Squat Challenge set to begin on Monday, we’d like to thank everyone who has signed up to take on the challenge to raise funds to help continue the work of Epilepsy Ireland and to increase awareness of epilepsy. It has been fantastic to see so many individuals, communities and teams come together to take part in the challenge!
One example of a team coming together in support of Epilepsy Ireland are the incredible Naomh Olaf’s Under-16 Girls team – who we are featuring especially as they are bringing the Squat Challenge to an international audience!
The Sandyford-based camogie team will be travelling to Scotland to take part in a Shinty and Camogie showcase and as they do so, have decided to take on the Squat challenge in recognition of their teammate and person with epilepsy, Skye.
Skye is a teenager living with the condition and regularly attends our Teen Time offering as part of our Young Epilepsy Programme. Skye’s mother Eva explained how she pitched the idea of Naomh Olaf getting involved – to be met with unanimous support:
I spotted the Squat Challenge on Instagram and had a light bulb moment as they say – as I realised that it coincided with a trip Skye is going on with her club to Glasgow. Given how fabulous her mentors and team mates have been in making sure they keep Skye safe if she does have a seizure (having taken part in Epilepsy Ireland’s fantastic epilepsy information sessions) - and because they are forever doing squats as part of their training - I thought it would be right up their alley to get involved and help raise some money for Epilepsy Ireland. The club are completely on board and the girls are going to be doing their squats in as many places as possible as they journey from Ireland to Scotland and back again!
With the team set to take to the skies tomorrow morning at 4:00am, the first place the team will be getting their squats in is Dublin airport – and they’ll be making some noise as they do so to help raise awareness of epilepsy and raise funds for Epilepsy Ireland.
You can follow their progress on our social media channels as they will be tagging us in our efforts so make sure you are following us to see the newly crowned “Squat Queens” take part in our 24-Hour Squat Challenge!
