After a highly successful inaugural event in Dublin before the end of 2024, My Moving Brain is heading to the rebel county on the 22nd of March!
The My Moving Brain iniaitive is being led by our colleagues in FutureNeuro - Ireland’s Centre for Translational Brain Science, funded by Research Ireland. The iniative as whole aims to highlight why neurological conditions should not be a barrier to participation in sport.
We are delighted to be supporting the My Moving Brain series of events and to be a named partner in the overall project as from an Epilepsy Ireland perspective, will present a fantastic opportunity to educate those involved in sports clubs locally that epilepsy is not a barrier to participation in sport.
There have been instances of people approaching our service who have not been included in a sporting activity due to their epilepsy. Often, this is simply down to a lack of awareness of the condition and when simple safety measures are put in place, a person with epilepsy can fully participate.
Like the Dublin event, there will be a strong epilepsy focus at this in-person event in Cork. Deputy Eoghan Kenny – a teacher at the event venue and a person with epilepsy - opening the session; Professor Danny Costello speaking about living with a brain condition from a neurologist’s perspective; our volunteer Bernie, will be speaking about her journey in supporting her epilepsy warrior Aine’s involvement in sport; while Dr. Michael McKillop, person with epilepsy and Epilepsy Ireland supporter, will be hosting the event and also charting how he managed the condition while going on to become a four time paralympic champion. Members of the Epilepsy Ireland team will also be on hand to provide information about the condition to all those attending.
The full agenda can be seen below and there will also be inclusive sporting activities on hand in the venue for all ages and abilities.
This event is open to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities so please come along and join us for the latest event of the My Moving Brain Series! We look forward to seeing you there!
