As we shared back in April, Epilepsy Ireland are currently working with our colleagues in FutureNeuro and the Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) on an exciting Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) funded project, entitled My Moving Brain.
The project aims to highlight the link between brain health and sport – as well as the inclusion of those with neurological conditions in sport. From an Epilepsy Ireland perspective, the project will be an important opportunity to work with Local Sports Partnerships to educate them on the realities of epilepsy.
Epilepsy is not a barrier to a person’s participation in sport in most cases. However, there have been instances of people approaching our service who have not been included in a sporting activity due to their epilepsy. Often, this is simply down to a lack of awareness of the condition and when simple safety measures are put in place, a person with epilepsy can fully participate.
Planning for the project is well underway, with the steering group for the project recently meeting and discussing our plans for the project. A key aspect of My Moving Brain will be regional workshops across Ireland, and this is where we want to hear from YOU!
We want to learn more about your preferences for these workshops, and to that end, our colleagues in FutureNeuro have launched a short survey seeking your feedback. You can complete the survey on the Microsoft form via the button below:
Thank you in advance for completing the survey and stay tuned for more on My Moving Brain – with the first workshop soon to be announced! We will be posting further information on this collaboration on our website and social media channels over the coming weeks. In the meantime, to learn more about Epilepsy and Sport, you can visit the ‘Lifestyle’ section of our website.
If you need any further information or advice regarding your or your loved one’s epilepsy, please do not hesitate to contact your local Community Resource Officer. You can find their details by visiting the ‘Our Local Services’ section of our website.
