Epilepsy - Who Cares?

As identified by our members, supporters and service users, one of Epilepsy Ireland’s key advocacy priorities for the coming years is the inclusion of Epilepsy on the Chronic Disease Management Programme (CDMP).

The CDMP represents a new approach in Ireland to working with patients to manage their healthcare.  It has brought the care for chronic disease further into the community and closer to the patient, and over time is expected to reduce hospital attendance by patients with one or more of the specified conditions.

To help build data around our campaign to have epilepsy added to the CDMP, we have been working with the Department of General Practice, University College Cork, and a GP in a large midlands practice on a project to examine the experience of people with epilepsy in engaging with their GPs around their epilepsy.  In addition, we have also developed a GP checklist - to be used by both patients and GPs alike to help aid discussions around epilepsy in a GP setting.

To help amplify our campaign around adding epilepsy to the CDMP, in collaboration with our partners at UCC, we have organised this special event to begin the process of engaging with key stakeholders in the care of people with epilepsy around this campaign. With a packed agenda, this event will highlight why epilepsy should be added to the CDMP and act as a launching pad to officially begin this campaign.

We are inviting people with epilepsy, their families, healthcare professionals and elected representative to join us at this event and discuss this campaign. The full agenda as well as registration details are included below.

We look forward to welcoming you on the day and to achieving progress on this most important campaign.
