Last Updated:
Ciaran Cannon and Minister Heather Humphreys and background of Dail

With the long-awaited changes to the Free Travel scheme due to come into effect in July – advocated for by Epilepsy Ireland – the impending changes were recently discussed in the Dail.

The matter was raised by Deputy Ciarán Cannon with Minister for Social Protection, Deputy Heather Humphreys – with Deputy Cannon in particular querying details on the application process which will be involved.

While the Minister did not disclose full details in the Dáil, she did confirm that the Department will be inviting applications from May – in advance of the new criteria coming into effect from this July.

The Minister also stated that there will be an information campaign launched by her Department to help publicise the change and the process involved and to ensure that those eligible apply for the expanded Free Travel benefit. Epilepsy Ireland are working with the Minister and her Department regarding this campaign.

In the meantime, you can watch the full discussion in the Dáil in the video below and as soon as more information regarding the application becomes available, we will publish this on our website and social media channels.
